In June of 1997 I started writing Fairhaven as a possible project for me to work on with Scott Hedlund and his then roommate and artist, Tim Etchison.
It started out as a modern day fantasy tale owing as much to Donna Tart’s The Secret History as it did to Emma Bull’s War For The Oaks. Pages were written, Scott and Tim began to draw it, everything was moving along. Until it wasn’t.
In 2004 Scott and I decided to finish the project as an 80 page graphic novel with our friend Dan Greenwald. I rewrote the script to change the setting from a college to the town of Fairhaven. Making sure to utilize the pages that were already drawn. Since Dan was going to be working with Scott, we decided to not use Tim’s pages so that there would be continuity between Scott and Dan. Work began again. Marshall Dillon lettered the book and got us in touch with the talented Mike Norton who we hired to draw that great cover. Marshall also hooked us up with Sunder Raj, who did some fantastic coloring. Noeland Collins created a sweet t-shirt illustration and everything was going great. Until it wasn’t.
In June of 2006 I started writing a fantasy web comic called World of Orenda with Jordan Harris and Allan Clifton. Scott drew a page a week for 1 year. The web comic debuted on August 2, 2007.
2007 saw Scott and I working on the Chaos Punks web comic with Wayne Wise. Scott and Wayne were producing a full color page every week that started on September 8, 2008.
When it was finished Scott and I started talking about putting out Fairhaven as a full color web comic.
We also started working on Weirdlings.
On January 1, 2011 we launched Weirdlings and Fairhaven at the same time.
Weirdlings finished up on October 5, 2011.
Fairhaven has one more page left, be here on Thursday to see last page that was 15 years in the making.
